It was sad to leave Best Friends but we had the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to look forward to. We hit the Arizona border just a few miles south of Kanab and continued to the Kaibab National Forest, which borders the Grand Canyon. The quaking aspen trees were gorgeous, wearing their fall colors of green, yellow, and orange. Eventually the drive ended at the Grand Canyon Lodge and from there we took the Bright Angel Point trail hike. This made that "vertigo trail" at Bryce seem easy. You walk along a narrow trail that drops right off into the canyons and for most of the trail there are no guardrails. Yikes! Mark took my hand and led me down the center of the trail in the scariest places. The views were amazing. We could see all the way to the South Rim.
We stopped at some other vista points and took some short trails, seeing different views of the Grand Canyon. It was a bit overcast but really gorgeous. At sunset we were at Cape Royal Point, and saw this huge bright red sun go down. Wow.
We had a 90-minute drive after sunset back along windy roads of the Grand Canyon and then through the Kaibab Forest to Jacob Lake, where we spent the night.
