The great counter clockwise Western State Tour begins. Sally planned this out more than Eisenhower planned D-Day. Every day is plotted from sunup to lodging at end of day (cat-friendly lodging which is phenomenally hard to secure).
So: we need to pack for the two of us for this 37 day trip.. For us, we need: clothes for daily wear as well as the National parks in the Fall (could get very cold and wet), cameras and camera chargers, binocs, computer gear, a foldable cooler, etc. Fleece -- which we need -- is sorta bulky, as are parkas. We don't want to do a lot of laundry, so add all that clothing (we settled on about a week's worth). Computer stuff, binoculars, glasses, toiletry kit (x2), a couple books, maps, route info for interesting places, and more.
All this has to fit into the Z4's tiny trunk. BMW alleges one can get two golf bags in there, and while that may be true, afterwards, nothing that won't bend will get in there.
So we packed two carry-on luggage bags (which had to be expanded and so would very much not pass any airline standards, not even AeroFlot), several soft bags, a soft cooler, a sheet (for the hotel beds (don't ask), and 6 bottles of end-of-day refreshments. All that pretty much filled the thing.
Oh. Right. The cat. Right. Have to add: cat food/treats, cat litter box, cat litter, cat dishes and feeder assembly and cat carrier. She has as much stuff as one of us.
Well, it turns out that taking the sunshade that covers the rear window, packing juuust right in three dimensions and then, ah, _compressing_ the rear window hatch a wee bit and...then
...we can go.
Just haveta make sure we lock the doors so the back hatch doesn't open at speed on I-80.
